Youth Sensitizing
and Awareness Workshop
Center for Study of Society
and Secularism had organized a three day camp on
‘Youth
Sensitizing and Awareness’. 53 under graduates from DAV
College Bhandup had participated in the camp at
Sarvodaya, St Pius College Campus, Goregoan (E), Mumbai
on 13th to 15th September 2011.
The aim of the camp was to make
youth aware about their rights and duties towards civil
society. CSSS had invited renowned resource person from
different institutes to deliver their thoughts to
students on various topic. Mr. Riyas and Ms. Minal from
Research Dept coordinated entire youth camp.
After the inaugural icebreaking
game to introduce participants among each other, Dr.
Asghar Ali Engineer Chairman of CSSS took the session on
democratic movement and role of youth in civil society.
He spoke to them about democracy, role they have to play
against corruption, their rights and duties towards the
nation etc. He answered to all the queries by the
students.
Mr Ravindra Naik from DAV College
Bhandup tried to make student understand their role as
responsible citizen starts from the family itself by
understanding their
responsibility
towards parents and home, which will further make them
understand their responsibility towards the country.
Prof. Bharti Unni started the
session by boosting youth for the energy and strength
which they have in them. Her entire session was based on
that if they are given proper direction they will always
prove to responsible citizen of the nation. Youth always
need to be shown proper direction we have to built
confidence in them which is the responsibility of their
Parents, teachers and educational institutions.
Dr. Mohan, Executive Director,
Center for study of Society and secularism delivered
lecture on ‘Democracy and Good Governance’. Her talk was
focused on the role and responsibility of youth to make
democracy a meaningful one for the wellbeing of all
sections in the society.
Mr. Mohammad Wajuhuddin gave a talk
on role of media and responsibility of youth towards
civil society. He discussed with students the recent
Anna Hazare
movement
against corruption.
Along with lectures from the
scholars from various institutes there was group
Activity, Group Discussion and Film Screening. Group
Discussion and Group activity were conducted by
researchers Ms. Minal and Mr. Riyas. Group discussion
was based on the theme Gender Discrimination and Social
System. Group Activity was based on the theme Stereo
types and Prejudice. Films Road to Sangam and
Mi SindhuTai Sapkal were played which gave message
of unity among every religion and a women’s struggle
life. The films were discussed with the students and
they participated in discussion by evaluating what are
the positive and negative aspects of the film

At the end day students were asked
few questions which were part of self evaluation and
understanding self through their own eyes and through
the friends, by writing comments about each other. This
question made them think about what they want to be in
future and with vote of thanks the camp was ended.
