WORKSHOP ON “PEACE AND CONFLICT
RESOLUTION

Centre
for Study of Society and Secularism organized a 7 day
workshop on “Peace and Conflict Resolution” from 21st
to 27th Non 2010 at St Pius Campus, Sarvodaya.
There were about 35 participants from different parts of
India who were students, NGO workers, activists, etc.
The workshop started with a peace march where the
students said the peace slogans and marched at the road.
The inauguration of the workshop was done by Dr Asghar
Ali Engineer who discussed about the need for the
workshop after which the sessions started.
Dr Asghar Ali Engineer spoke on the
following topics – Communalism in India its growth and
development, Prospects and challenges of Ayodhya
verdict, Theories of Peace and Conflict Resolution,
Causes of Partition of India, The other resource persons
and their
topics
are as follows – Prof Louis Di’ Silva – The need for
People to protest and demand in Indian Democracy, Prof
Srijit Mishra – Crisis in Indian Agriculture, Public
Health situation in India, Mr. Satish Sahani – Role of
Police in Civil Society, Ms. Ritu Pathak – Domestic
Violence and Women – Legal Aspects, Prof Ram Puniyani –
Syncretic Culture in India, Role of National leaders, &
Terrorism in India. Dr Mohan – Role of Women in Conflict
Transformation, Adv Stephen – Minority rights in India,
Secularism and Communalism in India, and Ms. Shanti
Sagaya – Status of Women in India, effects of
Globalization on the rural poor. Apart from all the
sessions there use to be group discussion and
documentary film shows. The students were also taken to
the educational trip on 26th Nov 2010 and on
the last day they presented their assignments after
which there was a cultural programme by them. The entire
workshop was very interactive and the students came out
with the following outcome –
1. The
students from Tamil Nadu will conduct 7 days workshop on
Human Rights and Women Empowerment in the villages.
2. Participants
from Manipur will from a youth group and conduct
lectures on Peace and harmony.
3. The
Varanasi group will conduct a 1 day programme on Peace
and Harmony.
4. The
students from Afghanistan will write 2 articles at least
in a year.
5. The
students from Pune are from Fiji & they will start
English classes for the primary students since language
is a problem for them, then they will educate them and
teach them the values of peace and harmony.
This itself shows that the workshop has
been able to create an impact on them.
